We live in a golden age of photography - accessible, instantly gratifying, and free (once the kit's paid for). Whether you own a smartphone, a budget compact camera or a high-end mirrorless setup, being able to capture moments and freeze them forever is a rare privilege. Online, we can browse the work of our favourite photographers, travel vicariously to exotic locations, or spend time minutely examining the detail of bird's feather or the hexagonal geometry of a fly's eye.
To celebrate World Photography Day, I've curated some of my favourite photos from the past year: one each from seven categories - abstract, bird, mammal, fungus, reptile and invertebrate. My selection criterion was simple: images that evoked a vivid memory of time spent outside waiting for the moment I wanted to capture. This gallery is about feeling and moment rather than settings and rules. I hope you enjoy the images! Let me know in the comments which one was your favourite.
If you enjoy my content, please consider buying me a coffee. A portion of all donations supports Dambari Wildlife Trust's research, conservation and outreach activities in the Matobo Hills.
